Zonia Keywan takes the reader back to the late 19th century when Eastern Europeans were scouted by the Canadian government to break soil in the prairies to join the railway system between the east and the west, and to establish an agricultural resource to increase trading opportunities internationally. The title suggests that when one owns their own land, and can create it how they need to, live freely without fearing political warfare, they are in a sense greater than kings.

A wonderful look at the actor-turned-president of Ukraine from the start of Zelensky's personal life, to his years in entertainment, until his unexpected role of defending the free world as we know it. This book is short, and the author is accessible on X, also providing information to his followers about the Russo-Ukrainian war, and history of Ukraine.

An in-depth look at the history of events that led up to the Holodomor and post Ukrainian Independence. Well-researched, and well-written, Red Famine was released in 2018 and has received many positive reviews and awards, including the Lionel Gelber Prize and Duff Cooper Prize. This book explains it all from the start of Stalin's intention to collectivize Ukrainian labour, and how many nations around the world reacted to the Holodomor.

Laisha Rosnau centers the power of woman around the many entries in this book of poetry that has won many awards since its release in 2018. Many of the poems describe the life of Ukrainian women who emigrated to Canada at the turn of the 20th century, allowing us to see through their eyes what life would have been like.

David Demchuk's collection of short stories about some of Ukraine's most impossible times is a combination of disturbing and somewhat heartbreaking. This book was released in 2017 and was one the 2017 Scotiabank Giller Prize longlist, won Canada's Sunburst Award in 2018 for adult fiction, and in 2020 was on the Kobzar Book Award shortlist. Stories include subject matter around the Holodomor, murder, ghosts, and general uncomfortable topics that are not for the faint of heart.
